Wisdom

Wisdom's first day at the home
Wisdom’s first day at the home

Wisdom entered HardtHaven in December 2008. At that time wisdom weighed 6 kilos and was around 10 months old. He had a severe case of malnutrition and kwaskikor (protein deficiency). This was due to the fact that Wisdom’s mother had mental issues and could not care for him, Wisdom’s father is unknown. The people in Wisdom’s village did the best they could for him but a wet nurse could not be found. As such, in a crucial period of his development when he should have been receiving breast milk or formula, he was mainly eating corn meal. Nursing Wisdom back to health was quite a challenge and he often refused to eat and had many G.I illnesses. Through hard work and perseverance Wisdom was rehabilitated. Six months after entering the home he was able to stand and take steps on his own.

Wisdom now weighs over 10 kilos! While he is stunted because of the lack of nutrition in his infancy his body mass index for his age group indicates that his weight gain is in the 50th percentile (right where it should be!).
Wisdom loves to chase any stay chickens that wander into HardtHaven! He is now health enough to attend the local preschool.
